Prosthetic leg and its types?
Any artificial leg that we attach to the client's body
to restore the movement or mobility of that part is called a Prosthetic leg.
One can choose from a variety of options when going for a Prosthetic leg and it
all depends on various factors such as your level of health, your level of
activity, and also the level of amputation. Apart from this, the cosmetic look
of the Prosthetic leg and its functionality also play an important role in
determining the type you will need to choose. But mostly there is a trade-off
between these two to make a balanced and long-lasting artificial leg.
In this process of artificial leg fitting, to make a good fit, the Prosthetist will
closely examine your residual limb. The level of amputation here is checked
forth to decide upon a good fit.
Post examination and settling the trade-offs between
Cosmetics and Functionality, the first step is to carve out a mould. Some
Prosthetists use a "hands-on" approach to make adjustments according
to the requirements and the level of amputation, while others use CAD-CAM, a
Computer-Aided design method to let the computer and a machine do the carving
out of a mould.
The second step is to attach a socket to your residual
limb. Mostly a Test Socket made of clear material is used to gauge the level of
fit and then the actual socket is made based on observations. Stumps and Socks
give comfort to the socket.
The important thing in all this process of artificial leg fitting, maintaining the
alignment of the artificial limb with the residual limb and in turn with the
client's body. Here Rinella’s experts
guide you to make it a smooth sailing process.
